How to Layer Up

February 20, 2014

How to wear layers.  There’s just one month left of Winter (thank goodness, who else is ready for Spring?) and those cold mornings may leave you wanting to toss on every piece of clothing you own just to stay warm.  Here are my easy tips to figuring out the right way to layer without looking bulky, while still being cozy and stylish.
Tips to Layering
1.  Consider your proportions.  If you’re wearing a chunky knit sweater you’re going to want to choose something slim and fitting for the bottom.  i.e. skinny jeans or shorts with tights.
2.  Limit your layers.  No more than 4 items at a time. A long sleeve tee, sweater, scarf and jacket is enough to keep you warm, assuming you’re not spending all day outside in -10*.
3.  Fabric Choice.  Cashmere, flannel, wool, or fleece-lined fabrics are all great choices to keep you warm.
4.  Shoes and Socks.  Knee high socks with your favorite pair of boots can make all the difference in keeping your toes from freezing.  Also, adding socks over your tights is another wear to look stylish while maintaining warm from the feet up!
Do you have any tips for layering you’d like to share?
