In Balboa Park.
With Nolan Dean and Ella wearing “Blue Hope”
Over the weekend Rick and I attended the second annual Avant Garde Costume Gala at the Mingei International Museum in Balboa Park and what a great venue for a party! Not only could we grab a drink when we first walked in but we were able to explore the museum and see all of the incredible history of the Mingei museum, which was pretty extensive and beautiful to look at.
Guests were asked to wear their wildest, most unique or thought-provoking costumes as we enjoyed culinary samplings from amazing chefs while watching incredible performances by The PGK Dance Project and a runway show with Michael Bui and Merlin Castell.
I knew I wanted to wear something that really stood out but wasn’t completely over the top, even though I know I could have gone that route, that’s necessarily my style. So instead I asked my friend and designer Nolan Dean if he would create a dress for me to wear and he created this gorgeous dress he calls “Blue Mercury.” Can we just talk about how HOT this dress is!! I was definitely channeling my inner Angelina Jolie with this high slit and took full advantage with the photos! LOL But honestly, the color would have been enough for me!
Rick and I both enjoyed the evening and we can’t wait until next year! If you’re interested in attending the next event keep an eye out through Vanguard Culture! XO
