Helloooo I’m officially coming to you as a Mrs.!!!! I can’t believe I’m a married woman, this is such an incredible feeling! LOL I honestly wasn’t sure I’d feel any different since Rick and I have been together for over 7 years and lived together for 3 but the day we said “I do” in Palm Springs, I felt like something changed. Yes, I’ll be sharing all the fun wedding details, video and photos with you soon (you can see a few sneak peeks on my Instagram @vanessaballi if you can’t wait!) but in the meantime I wanted to share with you a fun little staycation/pre-honeymoon we took right here in San Diego!
Rick and I got married 3 weeks ago in Palm Springs and we decided to take our official honeymoon in late August to Paris and Spain!! Since August is SO far away we wanted to celebrate our marriage and spend a little down time together over the weekend. If you’ve ever planned a wedding, or any event for that matter, you know how much time and effort goes into it, so any excuse for downtime we were in! We thought about where we would go and what we wanted to do and immediately The Hotel Del in Coronado came to mind. The Del has been in San Diego since 1888 and it’s an iconic staple, it was actually the first beachside resort on the West Coast. How cool is that?! Luckily for us, it’s only 20 minutes from our house but as soon as you cross the Coronado Bridge and enter the island, you feel a million miles away from everything else. It’s basically like being in Hawaii but without the airfare!
After attending Opening Day for the Padres on Friday we had a late check in at the hotel, and the staff was amazing! The hotel was still booming and vibrant with people everyone and yet the staff was still on their game and super helpful! Rick and I took the old school elevator up one level and walked to our room, as soon as we opened the door we saw this gorgeous suit waiting for us, including some sweet treats and a handwritten note welcoming us to our suite. Not only that, we had an amazing view overlooking the Coronado Bridge and the gorgeous lit up palm trees. We were so tired from the game and as soon as we layed on that big comfy bed we passed out! LOL
What I love about Coronado and The Del is that it’s walkable to everything. We didn’t drive or need our car the entire weekend! So Saturday morning, we got up early and walked down to Clayton’s Coffee Shop to grab breakfast. It’s a cute old school diner and the waffles are amazing! Since we had nothing but time, we walked up and down Orange Avenue stopping at all the shops. Of course I had to stop at one of my favorite boutiques Paris & Me, and did a runway show for Rick. LOL He ended up buying me a couple dresses, the blue one above I wore to dinner Saturday night 🙂 We also walked passed the park and saw all these tents, being curious we walked over and they were having a book fair, this was meant to be because we were looking for a book store, we also ran into my dad! LOL We ended up with a few books, all under $3 and headed back to The Del to spend the rest of the day at our poolside cabana. We read, drank, snacked on delicous food and took a dip in the pool!
Later that evening, after a much needed nap, we got dressed up and went to ENO for pizza and wine! I love to dress up, even for pizza, so I put on that gorgeous dress we picked up earlier in the day, Rick in his jeans, button up shirt, and wingtip shoes, we made our way down to ENO overlooking the ocean just before the sunset. I felt like I was in a dream, with my dream guy, in the dreamiest of locations! After dinner we grabbed ice cream at Moo Time (right next door) and walked on the beach. (Can you tell we like food?! haha)
After sleeping in on Sunday, I’m telling you those beds, sheets, and black out curtains…ah-mazing, we finally got up, grabbed coffee (tea for me) and walked on the beach again. We found a spot to sit, talk and people watch. I was wondering where all these people were visiting from, knowing that this gorgeous place, The Del in Coronado, was right in my very own backyard. I wake up in someone else’s vacation everyday and I loved being able to enjoy that experience this weekend with my new husband. To say I’m blessed is an understatement. If you ever get the chance to visit San Diego or if you live in San Diego, I highly recommend you make your way to The Del. It will be an experience you won’t forget!
