Paris, Je t’aime! It took all but a few minutes in Paris to understand why it’s the city of love. It’s been a quick 3 weeks since I said Au Revior to her, Paris. I say her because I’ve never been in a place that is more alive. Alive with culture, energy, noise, in motion, and full of emotion. Paris is a living breathing thing and it’s truly hard to put into words what this extraordinary place does to you the minute you step off the plane, but I’ll do my best! I thought it would be fun to relive this adventure with you and share my favorite moments, must see locations, where to stay, hidden gems, restaurants and everything in between! I’ll start off with this memorable moment in my life and continue to share our Paris journey for the next couple weeks!! If you have any questions along the way, advice, or anything you want to share please let me know, I love reading your comments! Rick and I were married in March and we decided to wait a few months before we took our honeymoon. When Rick asked me where I wanted to go my immediate response was PARIS! Rick had been there before, but knowing it was my dream destination he said, “let’s do it!” Thank you babe! We booked our flights and spent months researching things to do, places to see, and of course where to eat. We had lots of friends sharing tips as well!Initially, I thought Paris would be beautiful, romantic and historic, have amazing food, and incredible people. Seeing movies, shows, pictures, and magazines with Paris as the backdrop I had always been mesmerized. I couldn’t imagine that this iconic city could live up to the hype, the cliche. Could it really be all that everyone raved about or was it just another experience that was labeled with adjectives like “amazing” and “fantastic” that never really lived up. Could the food, the bread and pastry, and the wine really be that much better or was it all just a postcard fantasy hyped by those that were able to visit? After a train trip under the city, I was nervous with curiosity as we exited the metro and the escalator slowly took me up. First the rooftops came into view, almost every building a copy of it’s neighbor. I was shaking with excitement. Next thing I know I am thrust into a busy sidewalk of the neighborhood (Le Marais) we would be calling home for the next two weeks. Immediately I understood….Paris was alive!!! The street was lined with cafe’s full of people eating, drinking wine, smoking, and gesturing to one another. Scooters came from every direction and the distant whine of a European siren accented the air. The smell of fresh bread blew past me as well dressed people walked vigorously in every direction. I expected to hear a director yell, “cut” at any second because this seemed like a perfectly cast movie. But alas no, it’s Paris in all its glory. Not at all a cliche but rather the fantasy come to life waiting to grab your hand and lead you on a tour of the senses. Paris truly exceeded all of my expectations! After checking into our AirBNB, Rick and I jumped on the metro and exited one stop before our planned destination. I didn’t think anything of it because Rick had been here before and I figured he knew what he was doing. Did he ever! Just off the metro Rick asked me to walk ahead of him, he started filming for Instagram, (totally normal, didn’t think anything of it) and as I came around the corner I turned to the left and was completely surprised by the breathtaking site of the Eiffel Tower! I was in complete awe, overcome with emotion and started to cry. Please tell me that’s normal! This was literally my dream come true and seeing it in real life just hit me, I was so happy and emotional. I didn’t expect to have it affect me like that but if you’ve seen it in person you understand. I think people started to stare at this point, but I didn’t care, I was going to have my moment, right there in Paris in front of the Eiffel Tower! LOL Having my best friend to share this moment with was the icing on this already delicious cake! A day I will always remember.
