On March 18, 2018 Rick and I celebrated our 1 Year Wedding Anniversary! You know that “where did the time go” feeling you get, especially around New Years and big holidays? Well that’s exactly what it feels like today! Rick and I enjoyed a nice dinner together and celebrated all of the amazing memories we have created, all the lessons we’ve learned about being married and experiences we’ve had and have yet to have together. The top three things we’ve done this past year including traveling to Paris on our honeymoon, moving into a new house, and creating a beautiful life that will soon grace us with her presence this June! Oh my, the things you can do in a year!
This time last year, I woke up in Palm Springs and had this overwhelming sense of calm come over me because I knew that day was going to be memorable, romantic, fun, and perfect! Let me tell you it exceeded all my expectations. I didn’t think about planning, where anyone would sit, what the tables would look like, I just let it all go and took in every moment. Something I recommend all brides to be should do. At that point there’s nothing you can do or should think about, make sure you hire a planner and let them worry and stress for you! LOL
Instead of stressing I spent the morning getting ready at the beautiful Casa De Monte Vista Estate, where we had our reception and stayed for the weekend. I was with my bridesmaids and my mom all morning getting glammed. I popped a bottle of Veuve and it sprayed all over my white slip, I couldn’t stop laughing, it was hilarious and added to the fun start of the day! The morning was all about laughter and some happy tears!I debated whether or not I wanted to do a “first look” with Rick. Then I thought, you know what this may be the only time for us to experience a moment together today, just the two of us before it got to crazy. I’m so glad we did, because the look on Rick’s face when he turned around gets me every time! Then later, coming down the aisle we were able to have that moment again (because yes, I cried like a baby both times!) but we were able to share that special moment with our family and friends! What made that day even more memorable was where we got married…Moorten Botanical Garden. The family garden. Rick’s grandparents started this garden back in the early 40’s and his parents still run it today. Rick grew up here, and he even proposed to me on the lawn. To say this place holds a special place in our hearts is an understatement.Sure it’s been a year, but it feels like just yesterday. I remember everything so clearly and reflect on that day often because we had everyone we loved in one place at the same time. We’re incredibly lucky to have so many amazing friends and family members travel from all over to share in this special day with us. It was supposed to be a nice cool day, but we somehow had record temps for March. LOL Good thing for umbrellas, fans, and lots of water! Once the sun went down behind the mountains (and I’m sure after a few drinks) everyone seemed to forget about the heat!
Rick and I have known each other for 10 years, but being married to your best friend is such a different feeling. You never stop learning about each other and you want to be a better person for your significant other. You wake up every morning together, you share your secrets, dreams, passions, fears all knowing that person is going to love you no matter what. That feeling of belonging and having a home. This is actually what inspired our wedding song by The Cinematic Orchestra, To Build A Home. Just listen to this song and you’ll feel it too. (It’s in our wedding video below 😉
At our anniversary dinner, we were talking about our wedding and our favorite moments, one of them was our after party and then ending the night eating Jack In The Box tacos in bed. haha We didn’t know where we’d be in a year, but I couldn’t be happier! It’s been the best year so far and it’s only getting better. Sure things haven’t been perfect, there have been arguments, ups and downs, but there have been more memories, laughter, and love than we ever could have expected.
Rick, thank you for making my dreams come true, letting me plan the wedding of my dreams and giving me a life full of love, laughter, comfort, and security. You go above and beyond to make me happy and I appreciate everything you do for me and our growing family. I love you. I’m looking forward to what the next year brings for us, including Baby Josie, more memorable moments, and growing together!
